Pre-Anesthesia Instructions
Day Before and Day Of Surgery
The Night Before
✓Do not eat or drink anything after midnight. This includes oral tobacco products. Your case will be postponed or cancelled if you do.
✓Enjoy a healthy, well-balanced meal at dinner with at least 12 oz of water
✓Avoid alcohol, inhaled or oral tobacco, and marijuana for at least 24 hours before your procedure
✓Lay out comfortable, loose-fitting clothing with a short sleeved shirt and a plush or cozy blanket to bring with you for the next day
✓Pack an adult undergarment to wear for your procedure
✓Remove nail polish from at least one finger for pulse oximetry monitoring
✓Confirm your ride home with a responsible adult who can stay with you after the procedure
✓Take all of your medications at night unless instructed otherwise
✓Get a good night of rest
The Day Of Surgery
✓Do not eat food or drink liquids. This includes oral tobacco products. Your case will be postponed or cancelled if you do.
✓Avoid inhaled or oral tobacco and marijuana on the day of surgery
✓Take your medications as instructed with less than 2 oz water, more than 2 hours prior to arrival
✓Bring all prescribed medications, including inhaled medications such as inhalers
✓Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing with a short sleeved shirt
✓Wear an adult undergarment on the day of your procedure
✓Remove all jewelry and leave valuables at home; do not wear contact lenses — wear glasses if needed
✓Bring a comfy, cozy blanket you enjoy for added comfort during your procedure
✓Arrange for adult transportation from the office and have an adult present at your home for 24 hours after discharge, or until 7am the following day, to ensure your safety
